Ohia: February 2025
The series titled Ohia #1-4 was created as part of a special commission, celebrating the resilience and beauty of the Ohia, or Leihua flowers—one of the first signs of life following a volcanic eruption. These flowers symbolize strength and the ability to overcome adversity, which inspired the artistic interpretation.
In these sculptures, Hart has crafted abstract representations of the Ohia flowers emerging from the rich volcanic ash and lava of the mountains. Each piece reflects the dynamic interplay between nature’s challenges and its remarkable capacity for renewal. This series was commissioned for the 100th celebration of Leilehua High School, honoring not only the vibrant spirit of the Ohia but also the enduring legacy of education and community.
